Christian Bale in Talks for OUT OF THE FURNACE

Viggo Mortensen, Robert Duvall wanted for supporting roles.

Variety reports that Christian Bale has entered talks to star in the Ridley Scott and Leonardo DiCaprio-produced revenge thriller ‘Out of the Furnace.’

Formerly titled ‘The Low Dweller,’ the project is envisioned as a gritty throwback to the films of the 1970’s, with the story following an ex-con bent on avenging the murder of his younger brother as soon as he’s released from prison.

Scott Cooper is on board as director, helming from his own screenplay and according to the trade, the intent is for Robert Duvall, who appeared in Cooper’s ‘Crazy Heart,’ to star alongside Bale, though no deals have been made.

Viggo Mortensen (‘A Dangerous Method’) is reportedly being sought for the role of the villain, while Casey Affleck (‘Tower Heist’), Garrett Hedlund (‘Tron: Legacy’), Taylor Kitsch (‘John Carter’) and Channing Tatum (’21 Jump Street’) are believed to be among the actors circling the part of Bale’s brother.
