Chloé Zhao to Direct Marvel’s THE ETERNALS

Chinese-born filmmaker Chloé Zhao, who scored critical acclaim her feature directorial debut ‘The Rider,’ has been tapped to take the helm for a big screen outing of the Jack Kirby-created Marvel comic ‘The Eternals.’

Created by Kirby in 1976, the story is set millions of years ago when the cosmic beings known as the Celestials genetically experimented on humans, creating the super-powered team as well as more villainous off-shoots known as the Deviants. The two groups went on to battle each other throughout history to see which would eventually become the ultimate race.

News on Zhao’s involvement comes via Variety, which hears that Matthew and Ryan Firpo (‘Ruin’) are on board to shape.

Zhao was on the shortlist to direct Marvel’s solo outing of Black Widow, before Cate Shortland nabbed the position.
