Ejiofor will write and direct the film.

British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor (‘Z for Zachariah,’ ’12 Years a Slave,’ ‘Children of Men’) is stepping behind the camera to make his feature directorial debut with an adaptation of the William Kamkwamba book ‘The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind.’

Adapted by the actor, the film will tell of Kamkwamba’s childhood in Malawi and how, at age 14, he built a power-generating windmill from junk parts to rescue his family from famine.

Kamkwamba’s story was the subject of Ben Nabors and Tom Rielly’s 2013 documentary ‘William and the Windmill.’ You can check out a trailer for that below.
