Will play drug lord in new flick…
‘Sons Of Anarchy’ and ‘Pacific Rim’ star Charlie Hunnam is to produce and star in ‘American Drug Lord,’ a drama about cartel leader Edgar Valdez that will be scripted by Jason Hall (‘American Sniper’).
Per Deadline, the drama is based on Vanessa Grigoriadis and Mary Cuddehe’s 2011 Rolling Stone article of the same name and tells the story of Edgar Valdez, “a high school football player from Texas who would become the only U.S. citizen to rise to the level of cartel leader in Mexico.”
After pulling in $130 million in one year, he became a brutal force, often allegedly filming executions of his rivals and sharing them on the Internet. As the cartels turned on one another, “Valdez’s life became a struggle to stay alive.”
Hunnam will produce with Plan B’s Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner. Plan B’s Sarah Esberg will serve as executive producer.
