CARRIE Remake Considers Moretz and Bennett

Two actresses in consideration for title role.

Vulture has word that 15-year-old Chloe Moretz (‘Dark Shadows,’ ‘Kick-Ass’) and 24-year-old Haley Bennett (‘The Hole,’ ‘Lawless’) have emerged as the top candidates to lead Kimberly Peirce’s adaptation of the horror classic ‘Carrie.’

Penned by playwright, screenwriter and comic-book writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the new adaptation is believed to be sticking closer to Stephen King’s 1974 novel.

A number of actresses have auditioned for the part, including Dakota Fanning (‘Twilight’), Emily Browning (‘Sucker Punch’), Bella Heathcote (‘Dark Shadows’) and Lily Collins (‘Mirror Mirror’). ‘The Descendants’ star Shailene Woodley reportedly passed on an offer to play the haunted high-school teen.

Pierce is also said to be looking at Jodie Foster and Julianne Moore for the role of Carrie’s unhinged fundamentalist mother, previously played by Piper Laurie.
