True sequel to 2003 hit in development.
Universal Pictures is in talks with the scripting team of Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel (‘Allen Gregory,’ ‘Hot Tub Time Machine,’ ‘Yes Men’) to pen a new sequel to ‘Bruce Almighty.’ According to Variety, the feature is being developed as a starring vehicle for Jim Carrey.
The 2003 original starred Carrey as Bruce Nolan, a TV reporter who, at the end of the worst day in his life, angrily ridicules and rages against God. The Big Guy Upstairs responds, appearing in human form (Morgan Freeman), endowing Bruce with all of his divine powers and challenging Bruce to take on the big job and see if he can do it any better.
‘Evan Almighty,’ a 2007 spin off saw Steve Carell reprising his minor role of Evan Baxter from the first film. Evan, a newly elected Congressman, is contacted by God and told to emulate Noah and build an ark. Tom Shadyac directed both films.
