BIG MAN JAPAN Getting English Language Remake

Wacky sci-fi comedy getting English language remake.

Hitoshi Matsumoto’s hit Japanese sci-fi comedy ‘Dai-Nipponjin’ (‘Big Man Japan’) is set for an English-language remake with Neal H. Moritz (‘I Am Legend,’ ‘The Green Hornet’) overseeing the project under his Original Film production banner according to Variety.

Written, directed by and starring Matsumoto, the darkly comic mockumentary centers on an eccentric man who electrocutes himself to grow to superhuman size to continue a long-standing family tradition of facing off against Tokyo’s most formidable monsters.

No director or cast has been announced for the remake, but Matsumoto will be involved, saying:

“With an ordinary remake, you just turn over everything to someone else and do nothing yourself, but this time I’ll take part in the remake in some form or other, so I’d like to make something interesting and fun and different from ‘Big Man Japan.’”
