Ben Stiller to Direct Star in THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY

Actor/director lines up next project.

Ben Stiller (‘Tropic Thunder,’ ‘Zoolander’) is to take the helm of the upcoming remake of the 1947 Danny Kaye comedy ‘The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty.’ The actor/director will also play the title character.

The movie follows Mitty, a day-dreaming book editor who can’t seem to do anything right, so he imagines all sorts exciting lives for himself. Variety says that the long gestating remake will be a reimagining of the 1947 movie, which itself was loosely based on James Thurber’s 1939 short story.

The script was penned by ‘The Pursuit of Happyness’ scribe Steve Conrad. Jim Carrey, Mike Myers, Owen Wilson, Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen were previously linked to the movie, as well as directors Ron Howard, Steven Spielberg and Gore Verbinski.
