Live-action series will serve as prequel.
Deadline is hearing that Fox TV is teaming with Warner Bros. TV and ‘The Mentalist’ creator Bruno Heller for the Batman-inspired series ‘Gotham.’
‘Gotham’ will explore the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains who reside in the crime-ridden city. While the live-action series will take place in Bruce Wayne’s backyard, Batman is not expected to make an appearance.
Created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, the character of Commissioner James Gordon first appeared in Detective Comics #27 (May 1939), the same issue that introduced the world to Batman. The character was portrayed by Neil Hamilton in the 1960’s TV series, the late Pat Hingle in the 1989-97 Batman films, and more recently by Gary Oldman in the Christopher Nolan trilogy.
In addition to serving as executive producer on the prequel series, Heller will serve as writer. The series is set to premier
