English director Hugh Hudson behind the camera…
Screen Daily reports that Antonio Banderas (‘The Expendables 3,’ ‘Haywire’) is set to team with ‘Chariots of Fire’ director Hugh Hudson for the English-language period drama ‘Altamira.’
Based on a script by Olivia Hetreed (‘Girl With a Pearl Earring’), the film is set in 1879 and charts the story of “an amateur archaeologist (Banderas) and his daughter who discover early cave art. At first celebrated, the family is thrown into crisis following a backlash against them and the prehistoric art, led by the Catholic Church, scientists and other powerful forces.”
Producers on the drama include Morena Films partners Lucrecia Botin and Alvaro Longoria, and Andy Paterson of Sympathetic Ink. Laura Bickford will serve as executive producer.
