Anthony Hopkins Offered Villain Role in RED 2

Hopkins circling villainous role.

Anthony Hopkins (‘Thor,’ ‘Silence of the Lamb’) has been offered the villain role in Dean Parisot’s upcoming action sequel ‘Red 2.’ The actor is believed to be keen on taking the part but his involvement depends upon his commitments to ‘Thor 2.’

Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Mary Louise-Parker, and John Malkovich are all back, reprising their roles from the first film alongside newcomers Catherine Zeta-Jones (‘Rock of Ages,’ ‘Chicago’) and Byung-Hun Lee (‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’). The sequel follows the team of “Retired and Extremely Dangerous” CIA operatives as they use their old-school style to take on a new set of enemies all across Europe.

THR reports that Hopkins would be playing Edward Bailey, a “genius scientist who was locked up in an insane asylum.” ‘Red 2’ would reunite Hopkins with Mirren, with whom he is currently working on the Sacha Gervasi-directed film, ‘Hitchcock.’
