Animated GHOSTBUSTERS Movie Finds Director

Fletcher Moules, the director behind various commercials for the mobile game Clash of Clans, has reportedly been hired to direct an animated ‘Ghostbusters’ movie for Sony Pictures Animation.

The project is the brainchild of Ghost Corps, a collective Sony created last May with ‘Ghostbusters’ helmer Ivan Reitman and writer-star Dan Aykroyd to focus on expanding the ‘Ghostbusters’ franchise.

In addition to Paul Feig’s upcoming reboot starring Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig and Leslie Jones, the studio has another potential remake in development, with ‘Captain America: Civil War’ directors Joe and Anthony Russo behind the camera and Channing Tatum as the one of the leads.

The ‘Ghostbusters’ franchise is no stranger to animation, having previously jumped to the format after the first movie in 1984. ‘The Real Ghostbusters,’ produced by DiC Enterprises ran from 1986-91, and followed the further adventures of Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler, Ed Zeddmore and fan favourite, Slimer. A follow-up series titled ‘Extreme Ghostbusters’ aired in 1997. ‘Extreme Ghostbusters’ featured a team of younger college-level Ghostbusters who are led by Egon. The series lasted one season.

GHOSBUSTERS arrives in Irish cinemas July 15, 2016.
