Angelina Jolie Eyes GERTRUDE BELL with Ridley Scott

Jolie to play British explorer, political officer, and archaeologist Gertrude Bell.

THR reports that Angelina Jolie has attached to herself to ‘Gertrude Bell,’ a biopic of the British explorer.

Described as the female Lawrence of Arabia, Bell made an impact in the Middle East, with her work in establishing what would become the modern framework for Jordan and Iraq.

Bell worked for British Intelligence during World War I, and was a key asset to the dismantling of the Ottoman Empire and founding of Iraq. She was known as “one of the few representatives of His Majesty’s Government remembered by the Arabs with anything resembling affection”

‘The Constant Gardener’ scribe Jeffrey Caine is writing the screenplay with Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions overseeing the film’s development. As reported back in May, Scott has the biopic on his shortlist of possible directing vehicles to tackle after he wraps up on ‘Prometheus.’
