George MacKay (‘Captain Fantastic,’ ‘Pride’) and Dean-Charles Chapman (‘Game of Thrones’) are set to take the lead roles in ‘1917,’ the latest offering from British filmmaker Sam Mendes (‘Spectre,’ ‘Skyfall,’ ‘Road to Perdition’).

Featuring a script by Krysty Wilson-Cairns (‘Penny Dreadful’), the drama sees McKay and Chapman playing young British soldiers on a single day at the height of World War I.

THR has Andrew Scott (‘Sherlock,’ ‘Fleabag’), Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Firth (‘Mary Poppins Returns’), Mark Strong (‘Shazam!’), Richard Madden (‘Bodyguard’), Daniel Mays (‘Swimming with Men,’ ‘Fisherman’s Friends’), Adrian Scarborough (‘Gosford Park’), Jamie Parker (‘The Lady in the Van’), Nabhaan Rizwan (‘Informer’) and newcomer Claire Duburcq filling out the supporting cast.

Filming on the war drama will kick off on April 1 on location in England and Scotland.
