AMERICAN SPLENDOR Helmers Take MY BEAUTIFUL COMA

Will rewrite an earlier draft of the screenplay.

Variety reports that writers/directors Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini (‘Girl Most Likely,’ ‘The Extra Man ,’ ‘American Splendor’) have signed on to direct the indie romance-comedy ‘My Beautiful Coma.’

The filmmakers will work on a rewrite of the script by Chris Downey which follows an estranged couple who, after a car accident, find themselves side by side in the hospital, in comas. While “sleeping,” they each escape into their own alternate-reality where they are able to live out their every whim and fantasy, free of the banal details of real life — but when they cross over into each other’s coma-worlds, trouble ensues.

Matthew Rhodes and Cathy Schulman of Mandalay Vision are producing, along with Brett Ratner and John Cheng via Rat Entertainment.

Springer Berman and Pulcini’s latest offering, the black comedy ‘Girl Most Likely’ starring Kristen Wiig, is scheduled to open in Irish cinemas in July.
