AMERICAN MARY Helmers to Direct PAINKILLER JANE Movie

Comic book heroine moving to the big screen….

Heat Vision is reporting that The Soska Sisters, the twin sister directing duo behind ‘American Mary,’ have closed a deal to take the reins of a feature adaptation of Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada’s comic series ‘Painkiller Jane.’

The comic tells the story of the titular heroine, Jane Vasko, “a cop, who, along with her best friend and partner, goes undercover into an interconnected drug ring. When her identity is exposed, Jane is tortured, which leaves her with preternatural regenerating abilities and a high tolerance for pain.” Leaving her life as a police officer behind, she becomes the vigilante Painkiller Jane.

Palmiotti is on board to produce the film via his Paperfilms banner, along with Stephen L’Heureux of Solipsist Films.

The film will be the third attempt to adapt the comic, following a made-for-TV movie in 2005 with Emmanuelle Vaugier as Jane, and a short-lived TV series that starred Kristanna Loken. Palmiotti and his producers are plotting an indie action thriller.
