Variety reports that Allison Janney, William Hurt, Katie Holmes, Russell Means (‘The Last of the Mohicans’), Jean Reno (‘Leon’), Mark Rylance (‘Blitz’), Juliet Rylance (‘Animal’) are all in various stages of negotiations to join the ensemble cast of ‘The Seagull,’ a modern retelling of the Anton Chekhov classic.

The directorial debut of actor Christian Camargo (‘The Hurt Locker,’ ‘Dexter’), the indie will be set rural New England where reckless desire wreaks havoc over Memorial Day weekend as a family confronts the volatile and fragile nature of love.

Janney would be playing Elizabeth, a movie star based on the role of Irina Arkadina in ‘The Seagull.’ Hurt will play her ailing brother, while Holmes will play the temperamental daughter of the estate’s caretaker.

Production is scheduled to kick off in the coming with months with Camargo helming from his own screenplay.
