Alicia Vikander to Lead TULIP FEVER

Long-gesting adaptation back on track with new cast.

According to the Daily Mail, Swedish actress Alicia Vikander (‘Anna Karenina,’ ‘A Royal Affair’) is in the final stages of negotiations to take the lead in an adaptation of Deborah Moggach’s novel ‘Tulip Fever.’

Set in 17th century Holland, during a period when tulipomania has seized the populace, the book follows the romantic liaison between Vikander’s character, Sophia, and a talented artist hired by her rich husband to paint her portrait. The lovers invest in the risky tulip market in hopes to build a future together.

Justin Chadwick (‘Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom,’ ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’) is behind the camera with ‘Rust and Bone’ actor Matthias Schoenaerts reportedly being sought for the role of Sophia’s lover, Jan van Loos.

Long in development, the adaptation has come close to getting made several times and at one point had Keira Knightley and Jude Law attached to play the lovers.
