Payne may adapt New Yorker article…

Variety is reporting that Alexander Payne (‘The Descendants,’ ‘Sideways’) is being lined up to take the director’s chair ‘The Judge’s Will’ over at Fox Searchlight.

Based on a New Yorker story by the late novelist and screenwriter Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, the story focuses on the relationship between an ailing Delhi judge and his younger wife. You can read Jhabvala’s full article over on The New Yorker’s website here.

Payne will produce the film with Ad Hominem Enterprises partners Jim Burke and Jim Taylor. The filmmaker’s next, the black-and-white road trip dramedy ‘Nebraska’ starring Bruce Dern and Will Forte, opens in Irish cinemas in December.
