Abigail Breslin Joins ENDER

Harrison Ford and more also confirmed for sci-fi.

Variety reports that ‘Zombieland’ and ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ star Abigail Breslin has joined the cast of ‘Ender’s Game,’ writer-director Gavin Hood’s upcoming sci-fi adventure based on Orson Scott Card’s novel.

The film has Asa Butterfield (‘Hugo’) in the role of the title character, a genius strategist who’s recruited by the government to help destroy an insect-like alien race. Ender’s ally and trusted right hand, Petra Arkanian, will be played by Hailee Steinfeld (‘True Grit’). Breslin will play Valentine Wiggin, Ender’s older sister.

Also onboard are young stars Aramis Knight (‘Rendition), Moises Arias (‘Astro Boy’), Jimmy Pinchak (‘Let Me In’), Suraj Parthasarathy, Conor Carroll (‘Away We Go’) and Khylin Rhambo.

Knight will play Bean, a new recruit; Arias will play Bonzo, the commander of Salamander Army; Pinchak will play Peter Wiggin, Ender’s brilliant but tortured older brother; and Parthasarathy will play Alai, the first recruit to befriend Ender. Carroll will play Bernard, the leader of the new recruits who bullies Ender at first; and Rhambo will play Dink, a brainy member of Rat Army.

Harrison Ford, who was previously rumoured for a role, is now officially “locked” into the role of Colonel Hyram Graff, who’s in charge of training the young male recruits at an elite military academy. Ben Kingsley is in talks to play seasoned soldier Mazer Rackham.

Production is scheduled to being early 2012 in New Orleans with OddLot, K/O Paper Products and Digital Domain co-producing.
