Aaron Paul and Mary Elizabeth Winstead to Get SMASHED?

James Ponsoldt’s indie drama lines up cast.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead (‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’) and ‘Breaking Bad’ star Aaron Paul are in negotiations to lead the indie dramedy ‘Smashed.’

Variety describes the project as a modern day take on Blake Edwards’ 1962 drama ‘Days of Wine and Roses,’ with Winstead and Paul playing a married couple whose bond is built on a mutual love of alcohol. Their relationship is put to the test when the wife decides to get sober.

Breakout star of ‘The Help’ Octavia Spencer and Nick Offerman (‘Parks and Recreation’) will co-star. Spencer will be taking the role of Winstead’s close friend and AA sponsor, while Offerman will play an assistant principal at an elementary school.

James Ponsoldt (‘Off the Black’) is directing from a script he co-wrote with Susan Burke.
