Paramount Pictures Ireland has announced that John Ford’s classic The Quiet Man has been newly digitally remastered for both cinema presentation and DVD release. The film has, in recent years, only been available for cinema presentation on very limited occasions due to the fragile nature of the film prints in existence. This digitally remastered version will now allow a whole new cinema-going audience to fall in love with this timeless classic. The release of the DVD on March 8th comes just in time for Mother’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day.

This 1952 classic romantic comedy starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara was based on a 1933 Saturday Evening Post short story by Maurice Walsh. The film was a deeply personal project for Ford and he richly imbued this masterpiece with his love of the land and its people. Unsurprisingly given Ford's passion for the country, The Quiet Man won an Oscar for cinematography, which can be seen in all its glory on the big screen with this remastered version. It also brought him his fourth Academy Award for direction. The film is widely regarded as a milestone in film history by filmmakers such as Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg and Jim Sheridan.
John Wayne (Sean Thornton) returns to Innisfree, the town of his birth, to reclaim his family's cottage and escape the ghosts of his past. He gets more than he bargained for when he meets and falls in love with the fiery Mary Kate Danaher (Maureen O'Hara).
