Acclaimed documentary gets narrative treatment…

‘50/50’ director Jonathan Levine and writer Will Reiser have been tapped by Sony Pictures to develop a feature based on filmmaker Katie Dellamaggiore’s 2012 chess documentary ‘Brooklyn Castle.’

‘Brooklyn Castle’ tells the stories of five members of the chess team at I.S. 318, a below-the-poverty-line inner city junior high school that has won more national championships than any other in America. The film follows the challenges these kids face in their personal lives as well as on the chessboard, and is as much about the sting of their losses as it is about the anticipation of their victories.

Scott Rudin and Eli Bush of Scott Rudin Productions and Point Grey’s Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver will produce the narrative.
