With Back To The Future & Diary of a Wimpy Kid in irish cinemas, we look at 5 Movie Wimps & Geeks We’d Like to Meet

Louis Tully (Ghostbusters)

Thick-framed glasses, short stature and a wide-eyed expression, Rick Moranis was the perfect wimpy nerd for Ghostbusters. Moranis played the nerd accountant who brags about bargain-hunting and has an unrequited crush on his neighbor Dana…

Brian Johnson in The Breakfast Club

In Saturday detention in 1985 and Brian Johnson (Anthony Michael Hall) is the wimpy “brain” As the five students in detention get to know one another, they soon find out that Brian is there for bringing a flare gun to school, with suicidal intent, because he failed a shop class project… In the end, our wimpy here comes through, penning the essay for the group’s required project, i.e. he does everyones work for them… WIMP!

The Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz

With a name, like his, how can we leave him off the list? Yes, the Cowardly Lion was the king of the jungle, who was easily spooked in The Wizard of Oz. Thankfully he has Dorothy and the gang there to take him to see the Wizard to get some courage, learning in the end that it was inside of him all along. Awww….

Paulie Bleeker in Juno

The object of Juno’s affections, Paulie is the baby daddy of Juno’s unborn baby and most certainly a nerd (remember his running uniform?) Still as the final scenes show, Juno was, is, and always will be in love with the nerd. In this surprise hit movie about an independent teenager’s grit and determination, the nerd actually gets the girl, and it makes us happy.

Doc Brown

If you end your days developing time travel, you probably don’t have time to get to the gym and it shows in our favourite wimpy scientist: Doc Brown. So wimpy, the man had to travel back in time to find a girl who would even give him the time of day. And yet, he always had confidence, pluck, and a sincere love for science and humanity.
